Parallels between Israel and Professor X

In the final episode of X-Men 92′, Professor Xavier opened his eyes for one last time to behold his X-Men, and he blessed them.

With his final words, he drew his last breath and ‘died’. After 5 seasons of X-Men 92, Professor Xavier finally rested in the arms of his beloved Lilandra and was whisked away to the Shi’ar empire, thereby bringing the end of the era of a cartoon series that defined our adult hobbies.

When I rewatch the scene above, the story of Jacob (Israel) blessing his sons rises up to mind every time, therefore I thought it’d be awesome to rehash the words of both men as a tearful reminder of how the blessings of a father / father figure / leader create their children’s future.

Israel’s (Jacob’s) final blessings to his sons before he breathed his last breath

From Genesis 49:2-28 New King James Version Bible translation:

“Gather together and hear, you sons of Jacob,
And listen to Israel your father.

Reuben

“Reuben, you are my firstborn,
My might and the beginning of my strength,
The excellency of dignity and the excellency of power.
Unstable as water, you shall not excel,
Because you went up to your father’s bed;
Then you defiled it
He went up to my couch.

Simeon and Levi

“Simeon and Levi are brothers;
Instruments of cruelty are in their dwelling place.
Let not my soul enter their council;
Let not my honor be united to their assembly;
For in their anger they slew a man,
And in their self-will they hamstrung an ox.
Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce;
And their wrath, for it is cruel!
I will divide them in Jacob
And scatter them in Israel.

Judah

“Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise;
Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies;
Your father’s children shall bow down before you.
Judah is a lion’s whelp;
From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He bows down, he lies down as a lion;
And as a lion, who shall rouse him?
The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
Binding his donkey to the vine,
And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine,
He washed his garments in wine,
And his clothes in the blood of grapes.
His eyes are darker than wine,
And his teeth whiter than milk.

Zebulun

“Zebulun shall dwell by the haven of the sea;
He shall become a haven for ships,
And his border shall adjoin Sidon.

Issachar

“Issachar is a strong donkey,
Lying down between two burdens;
He saw that rest was good,
And that the land was pleasant;
He bowed his shoulder to bear a burden,
And became a band of slaves.

Dan

“Dan shall judge his people
As one of the tribes of Israel.
Dan shall be a serpent by the way,
A viper by the path,
That bites the horse’s heels
So that its rider shall fall backward.
I have waited for your salvation, O Lord!

Gad

“Gad, a troop shall tramp upon him,
But he shall triumph at last.

Asher

“Bread from Asher shall be rich,
And he shall yield royal dainties.

Naphtali

“Naphtali is a deer let loose;
He uses beautiful words.

Joseph

“Joseph is a fruitful bough,
A fruitful bough by a well;
His branches run over the wall.
The archers have bitterly grieved him,
Shot at him and hated him.
But his bow remained in strength,
And the arms of his hands were made strong
By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob
(From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),
By the God of your father who will help you,
And by the Almighty who will bless you
With blessings of heaven above,
Blessings of the deep that lies beneath,
Blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
The blessings of your father
Have excelled the blessings of my ancestors,
Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills.
They shall be on the head of Joseph,
And on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.

Benjamin

“Benjamin is a ravenous wolf;
In the morning he shall devour the prey,
And at night he shall divide the spoil.”

The 12 Tribes of Israel

All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them. And he blessed them; he blessed each one according to his own blessing.

Similarities between Israel (Jacob) and Professor X

  • They were fathers / father figure
  • They raised imperfect children but believed in the futures of their children
  • Jacob limped on one leg and Professor X was lame in both legs, so both of them were handicap in their legs

What Fathers, Leaders and Father figures must do to instill hope and a good future for their children / followers

I love watching Professor Xavier bless his X-Men because it mirrored Jacob’s blessing to his children. And I believe that if we are fathers or leaders, we need to speak out positive blessings for our followers to hear, to bless them.

One of my favorite blessings from the Bible is:

From Numbers 6:24-26 New King James Version Bible translation:

“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’

Speak it, type it, or sing it to your children or members and bless them with the blessing of the God of Israel. Read it to yourself too and receive the blessing from God our heavenly Father through Jesus the Messiah.

The Prophetic Result of Israel’s Blessing upon his son, Judah

Israel (Jacob) blessed Judah and said,

“…as a lion, who shall rouse him?
The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.”

The Coming Messiah

In the coming future, as prophesied in the Book of Revelation, the final book in the Judeo-Christian Bible:

Revelation 5:5-6 New King James Version Bible translation

But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

Messiah’s Reign

Hope summers aka the white Phoenix became the messiah for mutants because she restored the X-gene after the events of M-day.

In our reality, Yeshua (Hebrew name for Jesus) the descendent from the tribe of Judah, in His second coming to the nation of Israel, will renew the human race and completely destroy the spiritual evil of the Devil, thereby ushering in a new age of peace for eternity under His kingship – as prophesied by Israel (Jacob).

My Prayer for you

Father in heaven, I pray that whoever reads this blog post will receive your peace and a blessing upon their lives for grace, for peace, for prosperity and the love of Yeshua cover them always. Amen!

I'm a product of watching too many Saturday morning cartoons and loving Jesus and the Bible. While I love reading comics and watching, my first love will always be diving into the Word of God to uncover blessings, prophecies, context, Hebrew and Greek words and meditation of scripture. Connecting like-minded geeks together is what I do best on weekends on GEEKs SG on Meetup.com in Singapore. (And by the way, my secret is being a white collar by day and Vigilante Preacher online. Shhh..)
