My Japanese fiancée (we tied the knot in Sep 2025) and I are worlds apart in our common interests. She’s a stage performer, stage actress and singer who loves musicals while I’m the white-collar common geek who enjoys my comic books and movies. So, we often introduce content that we enjoy to each other, and I immediately fell in love with ‘Waving Through A Window’ from the musical, ‘Dear Evan Henson’.
If you haven’t seen ‘Dear Evan Henson’ the musical or the movie, I highly recommend it.
The lyrics of ‘Waving Through A Window’ speak to the ‘Peter Parker’ in all of us, and I want to encourage you if you are down on Parker Luck:
When you are down on Parker Luck
I can sooooo imagine Peter Parker singing ‘Waving Through A Window’ in another universe before he turned into Spider-Man. (He might sing it even after he’s Spidey.)
Sometimes we feel like the dweeb above, the loser who repeatedly falls down in life while hoping for life to turn around. Sometimes we are Peter Parker down on our Parker Luck.
Because we are,
“On the outside, always looking in
Will I ever be more than I’ve always been?
‘Cause I’m tap, tap, tapping on the glass
Waving through a window
I try to speak, but nobody can hear
So I wait around for an answer to appear
While I’m watch, watch, watching people pass
Waving through a window, oh
Can anybody see, is anybody waving?“
And many times, we feel like we’re falling and thinking:
“When you’re falling in a forest and there’s nobody around
Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?
Did I even make a sound?“
Encouraging words if you are Waving Through A Window with Parker Luck
Both my fiancée and I are the only child in our families raised by middle class struggling single mothers because our fathers left our mothers and married another love. We were waving through a window as we struggled with finances and family issues growing up. Loneliness was no stranger to us, so we developed methods to cope with life. For example, we actually resort to comforting ourselves with positive words under our breath (fer real) on a really bad day. I dunno if you do that too, it really helps.
As Parker Luck would have it, we definitely feel that the world should be kinder to us. We even share the experience of renting our own space too to distance ourselves from family toxicity (which is rare for the single, unmarried Asian).
You may not be in the same position as us, but you may be struggling quietly on your own. I may not be able to understand what you are going through or the thoughts that run through your mind at night or the coping mechanisms you fall back into just to get by.
But I can share what helped me get through life and I hope that it encourages you to pick yourself up every time and keep moving forward to your better future.
Words from the Bible to get through hard times when you are waving through a window with Parker Luck
Why I talk to myself when I’m struggling
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
– Joshua 1:8 New King James Version
There is something powerful about reading, reciting and hearing the words in the Bible to myself and I hope these verses below encourages you too.
Power, Love and a Sound Mind
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
– 2 Timothy 1:7 New King James Version
You are not fearful or weak, you were given a spirit of power, and love and a sound mind.
Awesomely and wonderfully made
I praise You, for I am awesomely, wonderfully made!
Wonderful are Your works—
and my soul knows that very well.
– Psalm 139:14 Tree of Life Version
You were awesomely and wonderfully made in the eyes of God and nothing or nobody can say anything that would differ from this truth.
Be strong and of good courage
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
– Joshua 1:9 New King James Version
Be strong and of good courage friend.
No weapon formed against you shall prosper
No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.
– Isaiah 54:17 New King James Version
No one or nothing against you shall succeed because God who defends the oppressed is for you.
God will never leave you nor forsake you
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
– Hebrews 13:5 New King James Version
God will always provide for you so be calm and trust that all will be well with what you have.
You will not die but live
I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the Lord.
– Psalm 118:17
You will live to tell of how God brought you out of all your troubles one day.
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
– Philipplians 4:13 New King James Version
Pray, when we are in need, sometimes all we can do is pray. When you are in deep distress and backed into a corner, try praying, “Jesus, help me.” And you might find help coming your way sooner than you expected because He lives.
