I know I’m super late in catching up with the trend but my wife and I just watched K:Pop Demon Hunters!
And so, I thought it would be fun to compare the Demons in the movie against Bible truths about Demons.

What do we know about Demons from the Bible?
- Demons are disembodied spirits
- Demons prey on human sins
- Demons use distraction to destroy lives
- The right music can drive demons away
- Demons want humanity to follow the path of destruction
What K-Pop: Demon Hunters got right about demons?
Based on the 5 given points, let us see how ‘K-Pop: Demon Hunters’ faired in getting Demons right… or wrong.
1. Demons are disembodied spirits
Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
“Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
~ Gospel of Mark 1:23-26 NIV
CORRECT: Gwi-Ma is a disembodied spirit.
CORRECT: Demons have an invisible form unseen to human beings.
WRONG: Demon Saja Boys have bodies.
Demons have no body and that’s why we can’t see them. While demons have an invisible form like the demon minions in the movie, they can’t materialize their forms into tangible human bodies like the Saja Boys or the flight crew can in reality.
2. Demons prey on human sins
But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
~ Letter of James 3:14-16 NIV
CORRECT: Jinu shared about how Gwi-Ma seduced him into the sin of trading his family in poverty for self-pleasure.
The Devil is the source of all deception that leads humanity into selfish acts of sin.
3. Demons use distraction to destroy lives
““The best thing, of course, is to keep him from praying altogether. Failing that, produce in him a vague devotional mood in which real concentration of will and intelligence have no part.” Replace “praying” with “anything meaningful or reflective,” and the advice fits perfectly into our cultural moment. We’ve created an environment where distraction isn’t the exception; it’s the norm.”
~ The Screwtape Letters by C.S Lewis
CORRECT: While the people are distracted with songs by the Saja Boys, demons come and take their souls away.
Social Media is media on steroids and has no real meditative value. It fulfills our addiction to fast moving content of blended politics, entertainment, facts and stupidity. Contents which are produced by very selfish producers who want a market share of views. Breeding the desire in viewers to keep consuming or put up content for selfish reasons.
Unlike a book which contains the full potency of context with the congruent flow of ideas for literate consumption, the speedy consumption of social media feeds lacks the contextual congruency for the mind to wrap itself around, thereby creating chaos in our souls.
An unfocused, undisciplined and idle mind is the easiest taking for demonic evil ideas to reign without the defense of understanding, reflection and meditation.
4. The right music can drive demons away
Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.
~ 1 Samuel 16:23 NIV
Somewhat CORRECT: The Honmoon barrier created by music is able to banish demons.
In the Old Testament, King Saul was afflicted by an evil spirit of distress and the sound of David playing the lyre was able to drive the evil affliction of distress out!
Today, vibrant Praise and Worship in churches all around the world lifts up the hearts of hearers, bringing hope and driving away demonic blues.
I embarked on a Mission Trip to Probolinggo Indonesia in 2014 with a team of missionaries sent from the Megachurch I was attending to minister to the community of a local church.
We encountered a demonic presence in one of the homes and the Pastor of that church in Probolinggo discerned it was the spirit of death. A guitarist and I went in to worship God in the room and after about 10 minutes of worship, we heard a loud “Thud!”, like something hit the ceiling above us, and we felt a clear tangible shift in the atmosphere!
The local church Pastor testified that he saw a demon flee upwards and fled away upon the roofs of the housing estate.
Praise and Worship to God Almighty, the Father of Jesus the Messiah drives demons away!
5. Demons want humanity to follow the path of destruction
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
~ Matthew 7:13 NIV
CORRECT: Gwi-Ma seduced the masses to him for his consumption – destroying their souls and ending their lives.
Satan is a deceiver from the beginning. He deceived Eve into doubting God and gave Adam the idea that he could be like God, to be the same as God and be God.
But God judged Adam and Eve for their sin and they were rightly called our parents for every human being struggles with imperfection because of Adam’s sin.
Jesus said, “Wide is the path to destruction, but narrow is the path to life.”
The Devil, Satan doesn’t want humans to gain life.
As seen in K:Pop Demon Hunters, Gwi-Ma wanted to dominate, to eat souls, and in parallel reason, so does the Devil. The Devil desires every soul to be damned by God. Therefore, he leads every soul on the wide path to destruction.
