Jewish comic heroes responding to Antisemitism

It’s 3rd June 2025. I finished reading Will Eisner’s final masterpiece ‘The Plot: The Secret Story of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion‘, my thoughts also filled with recent antisemitic events around the globe, and thus, I’m inspired to remind us of how our all-time favorite Jewish comic heroes responded against the evils of antisemitism.

Antisemitism to date since the Israel and Hamas War

A Reuters report summarizes the acts of violent worldwide antisemitic attacks from 18 October 2023 to the recent 22 May 2025 murder of the Israeli Embassy employees, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim at the Capital Jewish Museum.

The same report above noted a whoppin’ 140% record high increase in anti-semitic incidents in the U.S from 2022 – 2023 according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). Look up the facts from the ADL and find a total of 9,354 incidents of antisemitic harassment, vandalism and assault occurring in the U.S in 2024 which represents a staggering 893% increase over the past ten years.

And do I have to mention antisemitic acts endangering Jews in University Campuses worldwide?

I wholeheartedly wish The Thing was there to do some clobberin’ and protecting, know what I mean?

Showing Eternal Gratitude To The Jews for American Comic Book Culture

The highest accolade in the Comic Book industry is named after Will Eisner, the pioneer of graphic novels who inspired the ‘millions’ of great comic story writers who came after him. I’d say Eisner was the godfather of the comic book business.

Thank you Will Eisner and thank these amazing Jewish creators too:

• Creators of Superman: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster
• Creators of Batman: Bob Kane and Bill Finger
• Co-creator of Captain America: Jack Kirby
• Co-creator of (just to name a few,) Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Iron-Man, The Incredible Hulk, original X-Men, Thor, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow: Stan Lee (original name: Stanley Martin Lieber)
• Co-creator of Wolverine and Swamp Thing: Len Wein
• Writer who defined X-Men for millions and millions of readers and for generations to come: Chris Claremont
• Creator of the original Ultimate Spider-Man and Miles Morales Spider-Man: Brian Michael Bendis

The question we should ask ourselves is, how would these comic writers feel about antisemitism?

I believe that we should be very grateful to the Jews for giving us these awesome characters with stories of valor and the fight for moral goodness.

Any comic book geek who harbors antisemitic feelings should be remember the Jewish people who birthed this medium of entertainment. Because he who reads an American Comic Book filled with the heroes mentioned above and has antisemitic views is a hypocrite.
